Company Profile: Cameron Fabricating Corporation, Horseheads, NY, provides high-quality, custom fabrications from prototypes to production, in a variety of metals and materials. Design and estimating services are also provided. A family-owned business, the company has built an excellent reputation for quality and responsiveness over the 17 years they have been in business, starting with 3 employees, growing to 125.

Situation: Changes in customer needs and competition prompted Cameron to re-examine their direction and strategy. Since AM&T had worked with Cameron in the past on a variety of tasks including Strategic Planning, Cameron once again asked AM&T for assistance in establishing a strategic direction.

Project: Cameron assembled a team of managers, including the company president, to work with AM&T in several two-hour sessions each week until the task was completed. The team performed an assessment of the current company situation, developed and described the vision of the company, the major components of that vision, and the specific tasks necessary to reach the vision. A Balanced Scorecard was then developed for ongoing performance management. Specific action items with dates and responsibilities were generated as the last step in the process.

Impacts: A documented direction and picture of what Cameron wants to achieve as a company, with specific action plans and goals, and a methodology to assure and monitor results.
