Company Profile: Felchar Manufacturing Corporation reached a significant milestone in its pursuit of Total Quality Management. On February 25, 2000, Felchar Manufacturing received a certificate signifying that their Quality Management System complies with the requirements of the ISO 9001 Standard.

Felchar Manufacturing Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shop-Vac Corp., is located at 191-196 Corporate Drive in Binghamton, NY. The company was established in 1981 and presently manufactures universal electric motors, electric cords, metal stampings and thermoplastic moldings.

Situation: Felchar began the process of documenting its Quality Management System in 1996 and contracted with AM&T to assist with ISO 9001 Standard interpretations, providing recommendations on necessary changes to the processes, training of internal auditors and review of the Quality Manual and other documentation. AM&T performed a pre-assessment and then provided access to American Quality Assessors, a registrar who conducted the compliance audit in early December 1999.

Project: Working with the Felchar team, AM&T established a schedule for monthly internal audits at the Binghamton facility.
